Tour Update

Greetings!

Authentic Travel and Tours is alive and well, though it has been a time of transition. In 2016 I led a large tour to France, just after selling my gallery. I returned in 2017 to live in France for an extended time, then visited Ireland. Upon my return, I was hired as the Director of Woods hall Gallery and Studios on Madeline Island, where I spent the rest of the year. I was so busy with this position that I did not plan any tours, and I will continue on as Education coordinator but will not have quite as full a schedule.

So, this winter is a time to reflect on the amazing travel and experiences I have had, create artwork and delve deeply into fresh approaches to it. I’m particularly interested in botanical printing and have collected plants fro many places to print fabric and paper. I am also taking a break from leading trips so that I can tend to my home and property, and focus on where and what I would like the tours to be.

I am now able to focus on what new and exciting things might be possible for future tours, and have planned some “scouting” trips to look at possible tours and meet people to include. Ireland, Scotland and France are all of interest….so like this page, or my Facebook page, to get up to the minute posts when things develop.

Thank you for your interest!

Ireland 2017!

I am in Ireland enjoying a range of activities- from meeting people for our September tour and workshop, absorbing the mountains and green fields, to doing some eco-printing with Nicola Brown who will be our workshop leader. Nicola just brought back a fantastic new pot for boiling the bundles from France, and we fired it up for the first time! On our tour we will be immersed in Irish culture, while exploring eco-printing with native vegetation and learning from Nicola’s wealth of experience. We will also visit a local woolen mill, with gorgeous handwoven items, as well as a unique sheep farm, with stops at the studios of local artists. Beautiful Kilgraney House will be our home away from home, with delicious locally sourced food and luxury surroundings. Read all the details here: fiber-art-and-ecoprinting-tour-2017

Fiber art and Eco-printing in Ireland with Nicola Brown workshop

Fiber Art in Ireland with Nicola Brown :The Art of Eco Printing    September 10-16, 2017

JoinLough Currane (13) us for an Irish experience and art retreat with textile artist Nicola Brown in County Carlow, Ireland! An accomplished felt maker, Nicola has also researched and developed a beautiful line of “eco printed” textiles and clothing, using natural materials from the hedgerow, kitchen, gardens and woods surrounding her home. Once gathered, this vegetation is bundled in silk, wool or handmade felt and processed in well water to extract beautiful colour and prints.  Participants will discover dscn0532techniques, tips and processing methods, and can expect to create a variety of pieces during the week. This workshop is for anyone interested in learning the methods Nicola uses to achieve consistent and substantive prints on protein based fabric using a selection of local or easy to find natural vegetation (while enjoying the Irish countryside, food and culture!). These prints will be achieved in a simple and environmentally friendly way. Nicola is a renowned teacher, and has taught extensively on several continents.
