Fiber art and Eco-printing in Ireland with Nicola Brown workshop

Fiber Art in Ireland with Nicola Brown :The Art of Eco Printing    September 10-16, 2017

JoinLough Currane (13) us for an Irish experience and art retreat with textile artist Nicola Brown in County Carlow, Ireland! An accomplished felt maker, Nicola has also researched and developed a beautiful line of “eco printed” textiles and clothing, using natural materials from the hedgerow, kitchen, gardens and woods surrounding her home. Once gathered, this vegetation is bundled in silk, wool or handmade felt and processed in well water to extract beautiful colour and prints.  Participants will discover dscn0532techniques, tips and processing methods, and can expect to create a variety of pieces during the week. This workshop is for anyone interested in learning the methods Nicola uses to achieve consistent and substantive prints on protein based fabric using a selection of local or easy to find natural vegetation (while enjoying the Irish countryside, food and culture!). These prints will be achieved in a simple and environmentally friendly way. Nicola is a renowned teacher, and has taught extensively on several continents. Fiber Art workshops and tours 2017

It has been a Fiber Art February!! Planning isdscn0514 taking shape for some fantastic new workshops and tours for  fiber art fans! Here at my new Riverrun Pottery and Fiber Art studios, I have been busy experimenting with eco-ddscn0528yeing, nuno felting, and learning to use a new felt rolling machine. I will be continuing the large felted landscapes using the machine to lay out the base layers
and felt them. I love the idea of using local and natural plant dscn0533materials to create beautiful textiles…and I am currently enrolled in an eco-dyeing class with Nicola Brown in Ireland. The big news is that Nicola and I are planning a workshop in September, in Ireland, learning all about eco-printing from her in the beautiful Irish countryside. The class is for people of all skill levels. As soon as we have the final figures in the next few weeks, the brochure will be posted. Limited to 10 people!!

I will also be offering fiber art workshops here in northern Wisconsin and on Madeline Island, as well as a week long “Felting the Landscape” class at John Campbell Folk School in October. It is so exciting! More very soon……with dates and details!

I will be spending March in France, immersing myself in language and culture, as well as scouting for future workshops and tours. I will also be visiting Ireland and working with Nicola Brown on our plans. I am looking forward to gathering some botanicals and printdscn0230ing with them while in the French countryside! A bientot!DSCF8748
